After the Oneonta Gorge, a 7-mile drive will bring you to Bonneville Dam. This huge dam, built in the 1930s, created a long lake on the Columbia River. And it was the first of many dams built to tame the Columbia River torrents. You can easily see it from a distance from the Columbia River Gorge byway The gorge is as much as 700 ft. straight down, depending on where you hike in, but the park had erected a great series of wooden steps to make the trip easier. There are several falls in the gorge, and they all were beautiful to see. Also, there is a suspension bridge that goes from the north side to the south side Chemical toilet dump facility.
